Listen to Weldon Myrick play "Steel Guitar Rag" at Jayton Jam 2002!!!

2005 | 2004 | 2003 | 2002 | 2001 | History

With some sadness, but with lots of happy memories, we (Weldon Myrick, Billy John Harrison, and Coy Hoggard, hosts of the Jayton Jam) are announcing that there will not be a Jayton Jam in 2006 or subsequent years. The 5th Jam (which was held October 15, 2005) was the final one. And what a memorable one it was, with stars Leona Williams, Ferlin Husky and Simon Crum joining Jayton’s very own Weldon Myrick and the Jam Band to provide the afternoon music. Although each year’s jam was special in its own way, it would be hard to top the 2005 Jam.

We want to thank each person and group who contributed to the success of the five Jayton Jams. This includes featured stars such as Charlie McCoy, the late great Johnny Duncan, Johnny Moore, Frankie Miller and Jim Eaves (in addition to those mentioned above). It also includes the amateurs of various levels who added everyone’s enjoyment of the Jams.

And the “thank you” list certainly would not be complete without mentioning the members of the Jam Band, many of whom came every year to help out. This includes Doyle Hoggard, Reuben Darnell, and many others.

We especially want to thank the members of the Jayton Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Management Services who went to all the trouble to empty their building each year so that we could have the use of that facility. We are also grateful to Mayor Brown, the Jayton City Council, and members of the community for their support.

A heart-felt "thank you" is also extended to two individuals for their "behind the scenes" work as well as their Jam performances:  Andy Novak created and maintained the Jayton Jam web page. He also participated in most of the Jam programs, singing and playing guitar with the Jam Band.  Eddie Owen designed and printed bumper stickers promoting the Jam every year. He also participated in every year's program, harmonizing beautifully with Weldon.  Thank you, Andy and Eddie.

Thanks for the memories,

Sincerely,
Weldon Myrick
Billy John Harrison
Coy Hoggard
